Blockchain offers a fundamental shift in how the internet can be used for information sharing and data exchange in healthcare and public health. Blockchain technology enables trust without a centralized 3rd-party – as well as enables the creation of an internet of “value.” Dr. Savel will provide a primer on the fundamentals of blockchain, discuss the potential impact of blockchain on the healthcare system and public health, and provide thoughts from his participation on an actual blockchain project.

Guest Speaker:

Tom Savel, MD

Director, Informatics Innovation Unit (IIU)

Division of Public Health Information Dissemination (DPHID)  at Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
